International Day of Trans Memory

 

The International Day of Transsexual Memory, in English Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), which is celebrated annually on November 20, is a day dedicated to the memory of those people who have been killed victims of transphobia, hatred and fear of trans people, as well as to remember the ongoing violence suffered by the trans community. The purpose of the event is to give face and voice to those victims of transphobic violence, as well as to make visible the collective’s demand to live a life free of violence and be able to exercise their rights as the rest of the citizens.

 

On the occasion of this day, today the Trans Memory Day exhibition opens in the Hall of the Student’s House, which will remain open to the public until next Friday, November 23. In addition, the social club Diversa has provided an information desk on the main facade of La Casa del Alumno to raise awareness and inform the university community.

Within the framework of the International Day of Trans Memory, there will be the round table Ser trans in 2018, organized by Diversa UPV in the Spontaneous Generation Room on Thursday 22nd at 5:30 p.m.

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), in the framework of the 50th anniversary of the institution, celebrates, between November 19 and 25, the Week of Gender, Equality and Diversity.

Under the slogan “Be the change, commit yourself to equality”, the Week has begun with the opening, at 13:00, in the room Ximo Mora of the Student’s House (Building 4K), of the exhibition Women imprisoned, which will remain open to the public, and with free access, until next Friday, November 30 (in addition, on the 19th, at 4:30 pm, free guided tour to all those present).

The exhibition Women incarcerated, among many others of the association of women artists Blanco, Negro and Magenta, curated by Concha Mayordomo and with Marina Núñez as a guest artist, has proposed this project from the perspective that art brings, not only the situation of the physical imprisonment, also the many others that would attend to that same concept.

With the works done in a single format, coexist in the same space, in an impossible space temporary coordinates, such relevant figures as Anne Boleyn, Anne Frank, Aung San Suu Kyi, Camille Claudel, Dolores Ibarruri, Dora Maar, Gerda Taro, Emmeline Pankhurst , Farideh Lashai, The Strikers of the Segovia Prison, Hypatia of Alexandria, Indira Gandhi, Juana I of Castile, Joan of Arc, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Juana Rivas, Lidia Falcon, Malala, Marie Antoinette, Mariana Pineda, Maricuela , Mata Hari, Olympe de Gouges, Rosa Park, Sofia Basi, Tomasa Cuevas, The Thirteen Roses, Virginia Wolf, Yoyes and Yayoi Kusama.

All of them are part of a truly amazing group that invites you to take a journey through history, through cultures, through different continents and beliefs; from classical Alexandria to the most recent news of our country.

University Blood Donor Day UPV

Next Wednesday, November 21, under the slogan “Salvar vidas es de valientes”, the UPV and the Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community invite the entire university community to participate in this special blood donation.

The posters of this year have been designed by the students of the Master in Design and Illustration of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

There will be the participation of 22 students of the UPV Volunteer Exchange who will inform about the importance of donating blood to their classmates and will resolve any doubts that may arise during the day.

The visit of the vice-rectors Marilda is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Azulay Tapiero, Vice Chancellor of Campus and Sustainability, and José Luis Cueto Lominchar Vice Chancellor of Students, Culture and Sports, for transmit their support to volunteers and donors in the Student’s House.
It will also be attended by the Director of the Blood Transfusion Center of the CV, Cristina Narbona, and the UPV Student Delegate,Pablo Alcaraz.

The donation schedule will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., on the ground floor of the Student’s Recreation Center.

 

Hackaton Blockchain UPV

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the multinational IBM celebrated the UPV Blockchain Hackathon, an event around the blockchain technology that was attended by more than 300 people during its three days of activity.

The meeting, held from last Thursday until this Saturday at the Polytechnic City of Innovation of the UPV, featured round tables, training and a hackathon in which prototypes were developed from this technology.

The first day of talks and round tables around the block chain technology served as a presentation for Blockchain Work Labs, a Valencian company dedicated to the development, advice and implementation of blockchain for other organizations and companies. The opening was given by the Vice Chancellor of Employment and Entrepreneurship of the UPV, José Millet, who stressed the importance of putting value on talent and entrepreneurship of the Valencian system, “to become leaders in innovation.”

The day of Friday was dedicated to the hackathon. The Casa del Alumno hosted 20 uninterrupted hours, including the night, the competition for teams dedicated to the development of prototypes related to blockchain technology, as well as workshops and training courses on blockchain.

The first edition of Hackatón Blockchain UPV concluded this Saturday with the presentation of the proposals developed during the night and the awards ceremony to the winning team, 3rd Room and the finalist, Covercrash.

Exhibition OUTSIDE 2018

The past Thursday 23rd the OUTSIDE exhibition was opened in the Ximo Mora room of the Student Recreation Centre and it will be possible to visit it until Friday 9th. OUTISDE gathers the work of the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UPV during their exchange experience the past academic year.

The exhibition is part of the activities scheduled for the international week of the UPV, coinciding, in addition, with informative talks about the different exchange programs offered by the university: Erasmus, Promoe and Freemover mainly.

VI Interpoli Debate Tournament

The first day of the VI Interpoli Debate Tournament has taken place the past weekend at the Student Recreation Centre.

Should the EU countries break their military alliance with the US? This is the question around which different discussion groups made up of students from the UPV presented their reflections and will face a dialectical battle.

The winning team has received € 500 prize, € 300 the second and a € 150 prize for the best speaker or the best speaker. The first day was held in the Russafa neighborhood due to the cessation of UPV activities due to the rains.

The tournament ended on the 20th Saturday with the awards.

 

German Day in the Student Recreation Centre

Today, Tuesday 23rd, on the occasion of the X International Exchange Week, the Office of International Exchange Programs celebrates the day of Germany on the ground floor of the Student Recreation Centre. From 12:00h we can attend an informative talk, participate in a linguistic Tandem or enjoy a tasting of German food among other activities.

This event has the participation of the German Consulate in Valencia, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Madrid and the German School in Valencia.

It’s celebrated also this year, the 40th anniversary of brotherhood between the city of Valencia and the German city of Mainz.
